Both the African Breed Specialty and Sighthound Specialty will be held outside, early morning, in one of the estate's outdoor horse arenas. Inside of the arena is mostly packed dirt, some sand -nothing too hard to move in. Outside of the arena is desert scenery, mostly sand dunes with occasional scrubby yellow-green, dry plants. The arena is surrounded by a light wooden fence on all sides, with bleacher-style spectator seating on two sides. The horse gate leading into the arena is green metal.
Artists are welcome to add sponsor signs or banners hanging off of the fences at their discretion (potential sponsors: the FCI, Pedigree-Club, CanisNudari, EgyptianPointer, can be ads for dog food companies, etc). Handler dress is casual. Dress for the weather, as the closer it approaches noon, the hotter the temperatures. Pack your wide brimmed hats and lots of sunscreen!

FOR SHOW STORY / KENNEL STORY ARC PURPOSES:
A map of Zyath Estate can be found here (link). Disclaimer: The 2012 show was held before the property was built up, so please follow the above description even if it doesn't match up anymore. :)
The show is held in the Dressage arena marked #29 with bleacher seating (#30) on the long sides. Both parking lots #31 and #14 are available for guests although 31 is specifically reserved for entrants. Building #17 is where grooming stations, bathrooms, refreshment tables, and holding areas have been set up (think a conference center, metal interior, concrete floor, big and open).
Upper half of the property is horse related, so entrants may see horses about in the nearby pastures.

Conformation Accepted Breeds
Real breeds that are not accepted under a traditional kennel club may participate, but they will be judged according to how well they fit the general breed aesthetic in the absence of a traditional standard. For example, a Rajapalayam that is not white will be disqualified as the white coat is a recognized breed trait. For anyone entering a breed that falls into this category, I'll be reaching out to confirm how the breed will be judged.

Sporting - Working Events
Field CoursingInternational Field Coursing, not to be confused with Lure Coursing, is the competitive running of dogs (in sets of two) against a live hare. Dogs for this trial are MUZZLED, and are outfitted in either a red OR white collar of the owner's choice. The first dog to turn the hare wins the run and moves onto the next round of competition.
>> NO VESTS. This isn't Lure Coursing. << The hare and opponent do not need to be shown, but can for a potentially higher score. SETTING: Late Afternoon. Sunny. Dogs are run on neatly trimmed and maintained yellow-green grass. The coursing field is surrounded by a wooden fence covered in chicken wire to prevent the rabbit from escaping. Beyond the fence is generic woods and scrubland. |
Small Game HuntingA live hunt consisting of a hunter and 1-2 dogs. Dogs may be used to flush, retrieve, or down prey on their own. Orange hunting vests, GPS collars, etc are encouraged, but not required.
Solos and pairs may be separated into two separate classes if there are enough entries. Acceptable Prey Species: Hyrax, Egyptian Mongoose, Cape Hare, Rüppell's Fox, Greater Egyptian Jerboa, Lesser Egyptian Jerboa, Saharan Striped Polecat, and Striped Hyena. SETTING: Late Afternoon, Early Evening. Dogs are loosed in the desert scrublands and grasslands. Environment is grassy, rocky, and overgrown with the occasional marsh and shaded by stubby palm trees. |
Antelope CoursingThe Canis Nudari International Breed Club has donated a small selection of healthy, adult Gemsbok for coursing. This is an all breed trial, although Gemsbok can run as fast as 37 mph so keep this in mind when selecting dogs.
Dogs for this trial are MUZZLED, and for protection, must wear a heavy duty orange hunting vest. Dogs may run single or in a pair. While the ideal run is a quick chase between point A and point B, injuries and fatalities can occur. Watch out for kicks and charges. SETTING: Late Afternoon. Sunny. Ground is dirt and rock with sparse grass. The course is surrounded by two fence types: tall chain link on the viewing side and a tall wall made of wooden posts (see picture above). |
Road Dog TrialsRoad Dog is a working trial designed to test a dog's endurance, speed, and obedience in following a horse and rider. Entrants may provide their own horses or lease one from Zyath Estate. Each handler may enter up to three dogs on a single team.
Nudari should be wearing a harness. Other breeds should have a standard collar. There are two classes: Novice and Advanced. The Novice Course is 12.5 miles while the Advanced Course is 25 miles. For exercises, please see Chapter 8 of the AKC Road Dog trial guide. SETTING: Mid-Day to Early Evening. Sunny. Course is mostly dirt with sparse grasses, rocks, and stubby palm trees. The trail is marked by vibrant blue flags stuck into the ground. |
Classes / Levels
Classes may be merged if lacking entries.

Earnable Titles
Upon request, the small game hunter titles may be exchanged for an applicable title set (hare hunting, fox hunting, night hunting, ratting, etc depending on time of day shown and/or prey chosen). Please inquire if you'd like a title substitution.

Judging Rubrics
CONFORMATION RUBRIC
Comparison to Gallery (1-20/One to Twenty): Score should be higher the more positive consistencies and differences there are. These are judged against the artists gallery. Techniques (such as brushes, fur, anatomy, style, etc), as well as, composition (creativity of pose, style, dog, background, etc) will also be judged on positive consistencies and differences. If an entry is commissioned, the entry will be judged against the gallery of the artist that made the piece, NOT the owner of the dog.
Breed Standard (1-5): How correct the dog is to the written standard for their breed in color, conformation, gait, etc. Story Word Count (0-5/Zero to Five): +1 (one) for every 100 (one hundred) words up to 5 (five) points. Show Accuracy (1-20/One to Twenty): How accurate the picture is to relevant show details such as necessary equipment, setting, time of day, prey type, etc. Handler/Judge Shown (0-5): Optional - 0 points awarded for no handler, 3 points for a partial body, and 5 points for full body. Showing the judge but no handler also applies this bonus. Only 5 points total will be awarded. Artistic Appeal (0-10): This category takes into consideration color use, general appeal, composition, shading, perspective, an obvious light source, and general creativity. A carefully planned and executed piece that doesn't appear sloppy or rushed that may or may not use complex poses, etc will receive a higher score. Total Points: 65 |
